 SNOW DAY FACTORS

Their are many factors that go into receiving a Snow Day in your home City. All these many factors are considered every time we issue new Snow Day Outlooks.

Snowfall Accumulation - Snowfall accumulation always dictates on what percentage chances that you will have a snow day.

Wind Chill - Extreme Wind Chills in the winter cause frostbite in nearly minutes, this is a big issues with schools during the winter. Normally the wind Chill has to be a certain minus degree and for a certain amount of time, usually for a duration of the day and not just the morning hours and just to moderate through the day.

Wind - Wind has a huge factor in Snow Days, not alone but with Ice and Snow is can cause considerable damage. Ice and Wind causes downed trees and power lines resulting in Power outages, while Wind and Snow can cause extreme low visibilities and blowing and drifting snow over the roads.

Blowing and Drifting Snow - Blowing and Drifting Snow has a huge factor on deciding to have a Snow Day, whether plow plow over a road but the wind keeps blowing it back over.

Ice Accumulation - Ice is one of the biggest worries and Snow Day producers throughout the United States. Even a little bit of ice in the Southern Plains and Southeastern States will trigger a Snow day due to they are not use to the wintrry type weather.

Road Conditions - Road conditions dictate and play a huge part in issuing Snow Days, for instance, if the Snow Ends by 6 AM the next day, and if plows and get the plowing done before rush hour and main school rush, school will still go on.

Power Outages- Power Outages have a huge advantage in closing schools resulting of many factors, Blizzard Conditions and Ice Storms. But usually if its just sporadic it doesnt have much of a chance.

Terrain(part of the United States) : Terrain also plays a huge part, for instance if you receive like an inch of sleet and snow in Dallas, the Schools will shut down due to the fact that receiving wintry precip in that region drivers dont have much experience with driving in wintery weather.

Teachers Thoughts - Ask the School Teachers, they usually have enough experience with Snow Days and usually if a majority of think a snow day is possible, it will usually happen

Hype Factor: If the hype about the Winter storm on the news is extensive and the word is going ariound that a major winter storm is on the way, that usually is a huge factor in determining a  Snow Day.

Day of the Week and Holidays: Usually if a Winter storm lands on Sundays and ends on Monday mornings, Plow drivers and cleaners usually have more of a shot of clearing the roadways on a Sunday due to the fact that Mondays are the start of the busy work week.It is more unlikely of having a Snow Day then. If Winter Storms land on either Mondays-Fridays or if it starts during rush hour or the brunt of the storm during rush hour, the chances for a cancelation and snow days are much greater. If the storm starts later Friday afternoon, the chances are real low fora  snow day only if the storm isnt too significant. If the storm is significant enough, early delays will be likely. Usually just before winter breaks, if a Winter storm approaches on a Thursday and continues into the morning hours Friday, the chances are much lower considering students will have two weeks off of break and School system cant afford to cancel, only if the storm is bad enough. Having test on certains days and storms on the same days is also a huge factor, for example, if the Major Winter storm starts up at 6 PM one evening and ends at 8:00 AM the next morning, but it turns out the school has final exams, the second day of exams, the chances are more 50/50/
